The safety signs and signals regulations state that external traffic routes between buildings must be marked. In addition routes shared between vehicular traffic and pedestrians should be adequately segregated and signed. As of 1st January 2006 the revised class designations will be as follows: Under BSEN12899-1 2001 Class 1 becomes Class Ref 2 and Class 2 becomes Class Ref 1.
