Research has shown that the use of colour and contrast can be incredibly helpful for people with dementia. People suffering from this condition see the world differently and their environment can have a huge impact on them. Many people suffering with dementia relate better to images than words; and graphics can be an excellent way of helping people with dementia to communicate and to orientate themselves.
According to the Alzheimer’s Society there are around 850,000 people in the UK with dementia. Dementia is associated with an on-going decline of brain function and can affect memory, thinking skills and other mental abilities. Visual aids can be used to help stimulate memories for someone with Alzheimer’s and image association through pictures can help play a key role in allowing patients to remember more pleasant times in their lives.
To assist people with both dementia and sight problems, we have produced a range of high visibility information signs. The graphics used are universally recognised, and the colour contrast of these signs ensures maximum visibility.
