WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW EMERGENCY RESUSCITATION SUITABLE FOR ELECTRIC SHOCK
ACT IMMEDIATELY DELAY IS FATAL
• Do not touch the casualty whilst unprotected. Shout for assistance and make sure the emergency services are called. If possible turn the electrical supply off without endangering yourself, do so immediately.
• Isolate the injured person(s). If it is not possible to switch off the supply, protect yourself by insulating yourself from the ground by standing on a wooden pallet, rubber mat or telephone book. Proceed to use a non-conductive or an insulating material i.e. wood, to remove casualty from the source.
• Ensure emergency services are contacted and then commence steps of resuscitation until professional help arrives.
STEPS OF RESUSCITATION
STEP 1 - AIRWAY
Open the casualties airway by placing hand on forehead, gently tilting the head back lifting the chin with two finger tips.
STEP 2 - BREATHING
Check casualty for signs of breathing along the chest or by listening and touching around the mouth; Spending no more than 10 seconds. If the casualty is showing signs of breathing place in recovery position and await professional help.
STEP 3 - CIRCULATION
If there are signs of circulation - continue mouth to mouth at a rate of 10 breaths per minute until professional help arrives or casualty begins breathing unaided. At which point put the casualty into the recovery position.
Remove any obstruction from within the mouth.
i.e. broken denture/ teeth.
If the casualty is not showing signs of breathing - commence with resuscitation. (hi)eaEdnisutrielteadirwbacykisanodpetnhebryemisankoing sure obstructions.
(ii) Pinch nasal airway together, take a deep breath and place your mouth directly onto the casualties. Giving two effective rescue breaths, firstly exhale into their mouth until their chest can be seen to raise. Wait until the chest falls fully giving a second slow breath, then assess for signs of circulation.
If there are no signs of circulation - commence with chest compression/CPR. (i) Ensure you can lean over the casualty with straight arms, press vertically down 4-5 cm on the breast bone and then release pressure.
Give 30 rapid chest compressions followed by 2 rescue breaths continuously.
(iii) Continue until help arrives casualty responds with positive signs of recovery (to which you would place them in the recovery position).

• Communicate this information effectively to those who need to know.
• Consult and engage with workers about the risks and how they are being managed.
A Guide to Part 2
For all construction projects, commercial clients musts:
• Make suitable arrangements for managing their project, enabling those carrying it out to manage H&S risks in a proportionate way. These arrangements include:
• Appointing the contractors and designers to the project (including the principal designer and principal contractor on projects involving more than one contractor) while making sure they have the skills, knowledge, experience and organisational capability.
• Allowing sufficient time and resources for each stage of the project.
• Making sure that any principal designer and principal contractor appointed
carry out their duties in managing the project.
• Making sure suitable welfare facilities are provided for the duration of the project.
• Maintain and review the management arrangements for the duration of the project.
• Provide pre-construction information to every designer and contractor either
bidding for the work or already appointed to the project.
• Ensure that the principal contractor or contractor (for single contractor projects)
prepares a construction phase plan before that phase begins.
• Ensure that the principal designer prepares a health and safety file for the project and that is revised as necessary and made available to anyone who needs it for
subsequent work at the side.
